How to Properly Secure a Luxury Vehicle for Transport

Since 1980, Intercity Lines has been the industry leader in exotic car shipping. We have the highest standards for security and safety in the luxury and exotic car shipping industry. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or a first-time luxury car buyer, we’ll handle your car with the utmost care and respect to make sure it doesn’t sustain damage and always remains secure. We know how to properly secure a luxury vehicle – we’ve been doing it for almost 40 years.

From the first moment we pick up your car at an auction or dealership, we treat it with the same care as if it was our own car. Our team of experienced drivers expertly avoids tracking dirt into your car in the first place, but just in case, we put down seat covers and floor mats to protect the upholstery from any dirt, grease, or grime.

Car Secured with Nylon Straps

When securing your car for transport, Intercity Lines only uses nylon wheel tie-downs, never chains. Improperly using chains can damage the car in several ways. Carelessly putting on the chains could result in chipped paint. Chains are attached to the vehicle’s frame, and attaching them too tightly could bend the frame, resulting in thousands of dollars of damage. Furthermore, attaching chains to the wrong place underneath the car could cause them to slip, which could possibly scratch the paint or allow the car to roll in transit. This could also bend the frame or chassis.

Intercity Lines, however, never uses chains. Nylon tie-downs are the best and only way to secure a vehicle. The straps go over the tire, and they never touch the frame or chassis. During transport, our drivers check the tightness of the straps multiple times to make sure there’s no slippage. Keeping the straps snug will make sure your car doesn’t roll around and get damaged.

Once your vehicle has been loaded onto the trailer and secured with straps, we cover it twice. Every vehicle we transport gets three layers of protection, the first of which is the covered trailer. Then, we place a cloth cover on the vehicle to prevent any scratches. Finally, we place a plastic cover on top of that to protect the vehicle from dust, oil, and any other debris that might fly about during transport. That extra bit of attention and care we provide to your vehicle will give you peace of mind, because you’ll know your luxury or exotic vehicle is being handled properly.
